This is some bridge (who knows which, there are so many in New York!) where the train was just sitting on the track a couple miles outside Penn Station. The goverment (Amtrak) doesn't seem to mind if you wait.
Mom and I got to read and listen to books on CD while enjoying the Fall colors displayed around us. I got some headway on the Mayflower book by Nathaniel Phibrick that I'm reading for book club. Mom chose Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. So far we could label our experience Midnight on the Dumpy Trains. We've had below average service and not the best of the fleet so far. But I anticipate better cruising at various points along the trip.
Today is relaxing, reading and writing in Windsor. I missed my train to Toronto, so I'm just taking it easy. I'm clean and rested before my jaunt to the enemy confines of Spartan stadium in East Lansing for the Buckeyes game. It's got quite cold and windy here. The Tigers game will be played across the river in Detroit with a 30 degree chill factor. Ugh! It's windy out there.
It was really odd to see a big blizzard outside last night. About 2 in the morning I woke up and the train was stopped in the middle of a winter wonderland--in early October! Very pretty, but it winked out something in Amtrak's system so we had to stop. I woke at 5:55 AM looking for Toledo and my bus to Detroit. Instead I saw Cleveland Browns stadium--often a welcome sight, but this time a harbinger of an extremely delinquent train.
Pray that the Canucks don't get suspicious as I criss-cross the border for a football game, a concert, and my next train out of Toronto. Or I may be writing you from some Canadian border holding cell. I guess I'm just the suspicious looking type. I get a lot of attention at airports too. Hope everyone is having fun during your work week!
